Back in Oct 10, 2010, the Hub Network was born. Formerly known as Discovery Kids, this channel bought us new shows like Family Game Night, Dan Vs., Littlest Pet Shop, and let not forget, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. It also aired classic sitcom shows and some of our favorite childhood shows, which made it feel like it was Nickelodeon, Nick at Nite, or Disney Channel back in the 90s we all grow up remember.
However, couple of weeks ago, the news came to the shock when Discovery Communication, now owned 60 percent of the network, decided to rebrand the Hub to Discovery Family on Oct 13. This new rebrand network will add more Discovery and science shows. This let us many questions if the Hasbro shows, including MLP, will ever stay on the air. And what would the future hold for the shows if Discovery did gain back the whole channel they once owned?
First off, yes. Most Hasbro shows, even MLP, will stay on the schedule when the Hub Channel becomes Discovery Family on Monday. I checked the cable guide for next week that even though the classic sitcoms on nighttime would be gone, most children shows will stay. We all knew that since My Little Pony has already picked up the fifth season couple of months ago and Littlest Pet Shop is in the middle of the season. And yes, the new channel will still air Rainbow Rocks, the second Equestria Girls movie. So we shouldn’t be worry about it... for now. But I worry about the next few years if Discovery did owned extra 10 percent or even the whole thing. That will get MLP and all the Hasbro shows off the air.
But I hoping that isn’t going to happen real soon. MLP: Friendship is Magic gain the worldwide phenomenon when the show and the channel debut, not just for younger girls anymore, but for boys and even older men, hence the name “Brony.” As long as the show continues to stay strong, I just don’t see it goes away. The Hub was the good network to watch and tuned in, and seeing it going off the air was the last thing on earth I think that ever going to happen. If Discovery might drop all of Hasbro shows and gain 100 percent of the network, who know that we might not going to see sixth season of MLP or other shows, like Littlest Pet Shop and Family Game Night, for next year and beyond. Also, we have nothing to watch on Saturday morning, because few weeks ago Saturday morning cartoon was no more. Only option is if they move to the other channel, like Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, and who knows the Disney Channel might pick up the Pony and Pet Shop. But anything to get Hasbro shows to stay on the air, that fine by me.
But hey, if Discovery is getting back the whole channel, I hope they better bring back “Growing Up Creepie,” one of my favorites on the old channel. But what do you think? Leave your opinion in a comment.
We'll miss the Hub Network and Saturday morning cartoon. RIP
